Why I'm Saying Yes to Weddings… Again

If you've followed my photography journey over the years, you may have noticed that weddings haven't been the biggest part of my business for quite some time. Every now and then I'd quietly photograph one, usually through a referral or a past client, but for the most part I intentionally stepped away. Not because I stopped loving weddings—I don't think that could ever happen—but because life called me somewhere else for a little while.

When my kids were younger, weekends became less about work and more about being present. Weddings are incredible, but they're also emotionally and physically demanding. They ask for your whole heart, your full attention, and nearly every weekend during the busiest months of the year. As much as I loved being part of those celebrations, I knew there was a season where my own family needed more of me than my camera did. Looking back, I wouldn't change that decision for anything.

As the years have gone by, though, something has shifted. My children have grown into these incredible, independent humans, and I've found myself with the time and space to reconnect with the artistic side of myself again. Photography has always been the foundation of that. It's introduced me to painting, to slowing down, to seeing light differently, and to remembering why I picked up a camera in the first place. Funny enough, that journey has quietly led me right back to weddings.

The truth is... I've never completely left them. Over the last several years, I've continued photographing a handful of weddings each season, just enough to keep my toes in the water. Every single time I drove home after one, I'd find myself smiling. I'd remember how much I love the energy of a wedding day, how every celebration has its own personality, and how much trust couples place in the people they choose to stand beside them. It's a responsibility I've never taken lightly.

So, with a full heart (and honestly, a lot of excitement), I'm officially opening my calendar for up to 10 weddings in 2027, along with intimate weddings and smaller celebrations throughout the year. Limiting the number isn't about scarcity; it's about intention. I still photograph families, branding sessions, interiors, commercial work, and all of the other pieces of my business that I love. By keeping my wedding calendar intentionally small, every couple receives my full attention, my energy, and the experience they deserve.

After nearly twenty years behind the camera, I've learned something that surprises a lot of people: photographing a wedding has very little to do with simply taking beautiful pictures. Of course I'll create portraits you'll frame on your walls. I'll chase beautiful light, find thoughtful compositions, and make sure you look your absolute best. But that's only one part of my job. The real work begins long before your wedding day ever arrives.

About a month before your wedding, we'll sit down together and walk through your entire day. We build a timeline that actually works—not one that has you sprinting from one event to the next. We'll talk through ceremony timing, family portraits, sunset photos, travel between locations, reception events, and all of those little details couples don't even know to think about yet. I've photographed enough weddings to know where extra time should be built in and where we can simplify things so you actually get to enjoy your own celebration.

With a full heart (and honestly, a lot of excitement), I'm officially opening my calendar for up to 10 weddings in 2027, along with intimate weddings and smaller celebrations throughout the year.

Throughout the planning process, I become a resource just as much as I become your photographer. Need recommendations for vendors? I probably have a few favorites. Wondering whether a first look fits your day? Let's talk through both options. Unsure how long family photos really take? I've got you covered. Questions don't just become welcome—they become expected. I want you to feel like you have someone in your corner from the moment you book until the final gallery lands in your inbox.

Then wedding day arrives. People often assume photographers simply show up with cameras. In reality, we're often quietly keeping everything moving. I'm pinning boutonnières when they won't stay put. Fluffing dresses before you walk down the aisle. Carrying bouquets so your hands can relax between portraits. Finding grandparents before family photos. Making sure you've actually had a glass of water. Gently reminding everyone where they need to be without making anyone feel rushed. If the timeline slips a little—and let's be honest, it usually does—I adjust without anyone ever feeling the pressure.

My goal is never to control your wedding day. It's to protect it. To create enough calm that you can stay present instead of worrying about what's next. And somewhere in all of that, the photographs happen naturally.

If you've ever looked through my work, you've probably noticed one thing: I absolutely love candid moments. Don't get me wrong—I adore beautiful portraits, and we'll absolutely make time for them. But the photographs that stay with people twenty years later usually aren't the perfectly posed ones. They're your mom wiping away tears during the ceremony. Your best friend laughing so hard during the speeches that everyone at the table joins in. Your grandparents swaying together on the dance floor. The flower girl who decides halfway down the aisle she'd rather wave at everyone than toss petals. Those are the photographs that become family history, and the moments you can't recreate. Those are my favorite moments to chase.

I've photographed elegant ballroom weddings, backyard celebrations, intimate ceremonies with only a handful of guests, and full-day celebrations filled with hundreds of people. Every wedding has taught me the same thing: no two love stories look alike, and no wedding should feel like it's being squeezed into someone else's formula. My job isn't to force your day into a checklist. My job is to document your story exactly as it unfolds while helping everything feel effortless along the way.

If there's one thing I hope couples walk away saying after working with me, it isn't just that they love their photographs. I hope they say they felt taken care of. That they felt comfortable and they were able to breathe. That they actually enjoyed their wedding day because someone else was paying attention to all the moving pieces. The photographs become the lasting reminder of all of that.

So here we are.

Twenty years after photographing some of my very first weddings, I'm finding myself genuinely excited to step back into this part of photography in a bigger way. It feels less like starting over and more like coming home—with a lot more experience, a lot more perspective, and an even greater appreciation for what these days truly mean.

If you're planning a wedding in 2027, or an intimate celebration before then, and you're looking for someone who will be more than just the person holding the camera, I'd love to hear your story. I would be honored to help you build a day that feels relaxed, intentional, and unmistakably yours—and to create photographs that bring you right back to it every time you look through them.
